As a life long New Yorker, I know this situation all too well. I still cannot believe the number of people that are STILL wearing these things even though they don’t have to… outside, in their cars, alone… it makes me so angry because this madness WILL NOT END!
They are still masking the toddlers here! It’s insanity! It’s very easy for some people to relocate but when your entire family is here and has been since they immigrated a century ago, it’s difficult but I know there is no other choice. There truly is no hope for this state. 😕
Indeed we have created a monster - and more specifically the monster which has always been lurking in at the heart of it. Exorcising this beast and all the intersecting tentacles will be challenging in the extreme. Very helpful writing and insights!
Another great piece, Dr. McDonald. My reaction to the masked has gone from pity to annoyance and I felt a little guilty for judging them. But now you have helped me understand that we are dealing with fools and/or tyrants, and both are dangerous. We are at war, and I just hope more people wake up and quit complying. It only feeds the monster that is trying to destroy us. God bless you and keep up the fight. You inspire and strengthen us.
My husband's retirement dinner (being paid for by a generous donor, not the college he's spent 25 years teaching at) is tomorrow night and I've told him it will be a mask-free event and I will tell anyone who enters the room with one to take it off and keep it off. I will not tolerate it.
There are so very many permutations to this phenomenon. I know a woman who gets it totally about the Covid deceptions but who, trapped within her own anger and frustration, blames everyone else but herself for her desperate unhappiness. This is tearing her life apart. Failure to be scrupulously honest with ourselves and others is epic. Self-sabotage is real. How do we compassionately help others through this kind of weakness?
