I see everyone differently now. Everyone. How they behaved in 2020 and the two years following is something I cannot un-see. And I don’t want to. Selective amnesia is a denial of reality, the choice of comfortable fantasy over uncomfortable reality.
If there is one thing I have advocated for over all others, it is acknowledging reality.
Choosing to see people as they are rather than how you would like them to be raises a difficult question: Were people always bad, or did they become bad in 2020? Another way to ask this is did the pandemic turn people into mean, slavish fools, or did the pandemic simply bring these ugly traits out into the open for all to see?
